Serena wins her 17th Grand Slam title

2013 US Open Serena WIN Poster_Final

WTA World #1 Serena Williams wins her 17th Grand Slam title, defeating fellow Wilson player Victoria Azarenka 7-5 6-7 6-1 for the US Open title. The defending US Open champ was in control with her Wilson Blade tennis racket throughout the tournament, only dropping one set en route to the title.

“I love New York!” said Serena Williams. “I love the crowd and support here at home. Wilson has been with me every step of the way and it’s a great feeling to know I have the right racket in my hand to play my best tennis.”

Williams has been on a dominant World #1 in 2013, starting the season 26-0, marking the best start to a season since 1997 (Hingis), winning her second French Open Singles title, seven WTA titles and her fifth US Open title.

“Serena continues to leave her mark on the game,” stated Wilson General Manager, Jon Muir. “All of us at Wilson continue to be proud of Serena and her ongoing career achievements on the court.”

Wilson Blade was designed for hard hitting, aggressive players. It’s a control racket for the modern, aggressive game and upgraded with Amplifeel for enhanced feel and a new construction for increased performance. As the choice of many tour and Next Gen players, the Blade is the future of control.

Wilson Changes The Game With “Spin Effect Technology”

Steam 99s & Steam 105s featuring Wilson's Spin Effect Technology

From wood, to graphite to oversized frames, tennis racket design has had clear transitions that shaped the game. Wilson Sporting Goods Co. is announcing the next milestone for 2013 with the launch of Spin Effect Technology™, its patent-pending racket technology dramatically increasing spin. It is the first racket system enabling players to add over 200 RPMs on their shots without needing to change their swing. Two new 2013 rackets, the Steam 99S™ and Steam 105S™, feature Spin Effect Technology.

“This racket design is a significant breakthrough,” said Jon Muir, general manager for Wilson Racquet Sports. “Our R&D and Product teams spent significant time testing, analyzing technologies and developing different racket designs that enhance spin and playability. We have something really special in the Steam 99S and Steam 105S. In the end, players will see their degree of spin increase. It is essentially the same as lowering the net by two inches and extending the court by a foot. The bottom line is that more shots make it over the net and stay in play.”

At its state-of-the-art Innovation Center, Wilson investigated the correlation between string pattern, racket design and spin, and is the only tennis brand to use proprietary monitoring technology to measure spin rotation, speed and height. Wilson discovered that fewer cross strings were a key driver of maximizing string movement along with faster snapback speed to generate more spin. This has resulted in a complete racket redesign that supports this new string pattern while enhancing overall playability as well. It is the first racket that provides up to 3.3 times more string movement and 69 percent faster snap back*, specifically engineered for this style of play.

The Steam 99S and Steam 105S with Spin Effect Technology use Amplifeel 360™, Wilson’s enhanced handle technology that provides a superior feel while dramatically increasing power.

“Today’s game has changed dramatically and is all about aggressive spin,” Muir continued. “Wilson continues to lead this evolution. This advancement will bring increased spin potential to a wider audience and will improve their game.”

Only fitting that Lauren’s first photo on the blog as Wilson Digital Specialist is her Facebook profile photo!

Hey there,

For the past four years, I gave birth, fed and raised Wilson Tennis’ social media to what it is today. This is the closest thing I will get to having a child for a while and now my baby is all grown up!! haha 🙂 It’s time for my baby to become more independent and have someone new in their life… someone else to be at the helm and elevate our social media to an even higher level.

Please welcome our new Wilson Digital Media Specialist, Lauren Adermann!!!!

A little background on Lauren: Lauren was born and raised in Illinois, played high school tennis before studying Public Relations & Communications at Illinois State University and most recently, worked for the famous Chicago Concert Hall, Metro before coming to Wilson.

I am extremely excited to have Lauren on the team to bring a fresh vibe to our team! Thought it would be a good idea to get to know her a bit more as she will be your day to day Wilson connection, so check out our quick Q and A with Lauren.

And remember, like every good parent, I will still be here in the wings, will chime in occasionally, watching over and here whenever needed!! Thank you to all of you, our Wilson peeps for helping me have a blast! 🙂

Please continue to be awesome to Lauren as you were to me and as always…….

Until later,

PS Nostalgia, one of the first videos I did included below 😛

Age? 29
Where did you grow up? Vandalia, IL
Where did you go to college? Illinois State University
What motivated you to take the job at Wilson? I’ve had my eye on Wilson since I was a kid. I love the brand and when I moved to Chicago and found out that Wilson was based here I made it a goal to somehow work for the company one day.
How old were you when you started to play tennis? 8
What was your most memorable tennis experience from your childhood? It’s debatable whether or not you consider this “childhood” but 17 year olds are still kids, so just go with it – My most memorable experience was the moment at sectionals where I made state. I immediately burst into tears of happiness. I also look back at all of the times my mom drive me to tennis lessons as a kid. It was a really special thing for me to have those moments with her. I could go on and on. Being involved in Tennis was no doubt one of the best things about my life growing up.
What is your best shot? My serve.
And your worst? Volleys for sure.
Who is your favorite tennis player? Growing up my fav was Sampras. Now I’m into Serena and Federer (and no, not just because they use Wilson tennis rackets!)
Twitter, Facebook or YouTube? Instagram!
Favorite player to follow on social media? And why? @milosraonic  – He seems like a funny guy and always has interesting posts. He does a great job with his Twitter.
What makes you laugh? Tosh.0, cats being weird, toilet humor
What is your favorite part of working at Wilson so far? The people. I can’t tell you how pleasantly surprised I am at how wonderful my coworkers are. Not only are they helpful and nice, but they’re a lot of fun to be around!

One word to describe yourself. Since sound effects are hard to communicate via type, I’ll go with Quirky.

It’s all about heart

Hey there,

Well, in sports and in life… as Rod Tidwell in Jerry Maguire proves, it’s all about heart!!!

So here we are on a Monday night and we just finished an outstanding dinner with one of our top young guns Grigor Dimitrov and a few people from the office.

It is not very often that we spend time with our players in Chicago at Wilson HQ and this is a great opportunity for us to not only get more feedback on our products, but get more insight to the players and what they are about.

Tonight Grigor and the Wilson crew talked about favorite movies, the last meal we would have if we were stuck on a deserted island and all the important things to cover when at a dinner table! haha

It was a super fun dinner and really relaxed, which EVERYONE really needed.

Anyway, I am may be extremely biased about my opinion of Grigor, as we have worked closely together since he joined the Wilson team, but he is truly an AMAZING kid with SO MUCH HEART…. you can’t help but root for him and get on the ‘G-Train’!!!!! 😛

For Grigor to make the effort to come to Chicago during the off season to spend time at Wilson HQ during his ‘vacation’,  it means a lot to us and shows his great character overall. It just shows how important his relationship with his sponsors are to him and truly speaks volumes of the type of person he is….. it really shows tremendous respect and understanding to supporters. There is no question Grigor is one of the most talented players out there… and on top of that, he has the personality and charisma to bring tennis to another level.

Grigor reached a career high of #48 this week on the ATP Tour and this clearly only the beginning for him.

Let’s hope he can elevate and show just the world exactly what he is capable of.

Until later,

ps I willwrite more later as tomorrow, we will have some fun stuff, but for now, enjoy the talent of the behind the back during a match!!!
