Wilson extends sponsorship of Davis Cup and Fed Cup

Wilson Business Director Europe Christian Singer and ITF President Francesco Ricci Bitti

The ITF announced today that it has renewed its sponsorship agreement with Wilson Racquet Sports as an international partner of Davis Cup and Fed Cup. Wilson will remain the Official Ball of Davis Cup and Fed Cup for a further five years, starting in 2013 through 2017.

Wilson joined Davis Cup in 2002 as an official partner and manufacturer of the Official Ball of Davis Cup. It currently markets the Wilson Davis Cup Tour ball as the Official Ball of Davis Cup, a premium tennis ball that is ideal for play on all court surfaces.

Wilson went on to become an official partner and manufacturer of the Official Ball of Fed Cup in 2006, since when it has increased its on-site presence and activities at all ties in the ITF’s premier team competitions.

In addition to its long-term support of Davis Cup and Fed Cup, Wilson has a strong commitment to grass roots tennis. It is currently the Official Ball of the ITF’s junior team competitions at the under 14 and under 16 level; the exclusive supplier of tennis rackets, shoes, clothing and accessories to the ITF Development Coaching Team; and has also supported the ITF Worldwide Coaches Conference.

ITF President Francesco Ricci Bitti said: “Wilson remains an outstanding partner for the ITF, helping in our efforts to develop and promote the game. In particular the company has been a long and loyal sponsor of our premier team competitions, and we are delighted to have its continued support for many years to come.”

“The Davis Cup and Fed Cup are iconic tennis institutions, important to the heritage of the sport and to our brand,” said Jon Muir, general manager for Wilson Racquet Sports. “These events help to drive the local participation efforts in many countries around the world, and our brand and business efforts have aligned to support this as well. We are pleased to continue this strong partnership and look forward to bringing the energy of the game to all generations of tennis fans.”

Andrea Petkovic joins Wilson World Record Attempt

WTA Tennis World #11 Andrea Petkovic announced that she will join Mardy Fish in Wilson’s attempt to set the Guinness Book of World Record for the “Most people to bounce a tennis ball on their racquet in one location” on August 26, 2011 at the Billie Jean King Tennis Center in Flushing Meadows, NY.

Petkovic is having a stellar year, using her Wilson Six.One Team BLX racquet to win her 2nd career singles title, reach the quarterfinals of Australian Open and French Open and catapult her to a career high #11 in the world.

“We are psyched to have Andrea on board for the event. Her fun and energetic personality is perfect for getting everyone on the courts,” said Mike Steck, Wilson Racquet Global Director of Marketing. “And we can’t wait to see what dance moves she busts out after we break the record!”

Fish and Petkovic are encouraging kids to get fit and get into sport. One of the first things players learn when starting tennis, is to bounce the ball on their racquet and the Guinness World Record attempt will have players of all ages do just that. The first 500 kids to participate in the world record attempt will receive a free Wilson junior racquet and a can of tennis balls so they can get started right away!

Day 4/5- Paris 2011

Hey all,

Hope you are having a great night. Well, it’s 2am here and yes, I have not slept much still, but tonight it was for a great reason, it was Wilson Tour Manager Mario Vergara’s 30th birthday!! 🙂 Happy Bday Mario!

Today was a good day at the office, 1st round matches started and Wilson Next Gen’rs Kei Nishikori and Simona Halep won their matches today and tomorrow will only get better.

Player service has been going well, we had Petra Kvitova, Robert Lindstedt, Horia Tecau, Melanie Oudin, and many more stop by……it is always fun catching up with everyone and seeing them relaxed, away from the intensity of the tournament. We also like to get some of our Wilson Tennis Challenges in…. the players love doing these challenges and even other players around the tournament have noticed how many times I lose in the Wilson Pro Overgrip Challenge!!! haha Pro Overgrip is definitely the most popular choice for the players on court and in challenges!! I think it’s cause they know they have a 99.9% chance of winning!! 😉

Anyway, speaking of challenges, check out this one with Wilson Exclusive athlete Corinna Dentoni.

Enjoy and until tomorrow….Tracy
