Best Day of My Life by Bogdan Borza

Roger Federer and Bogdan Borza on the set of the Wilson shoot

Roger Federer and Bogdan Borza on the set of the Wilson Tennis shoot

The first time I heard about the Wilson shoot I was really excited. I couldn’t believe it was true! From that moment, I started to practice harder and harder .

When I arrived in Palm Springs, Tracy waited for me at the airport and she drove me to the hotel. On the road she told me about my schedule for next couple of days .

Next day, I woke up happy because I knew that it was going to be a really good day for me…..I played with David Goffin, Alexandr Dolgopolov and one of my favorite players in the world Grigor Dimitrov. After a long day I went to bed early because I knew that next day was gonna be awesome.

I woke up and I said:”Finally ! The biggest day of my life has arrived!”
On that day, I met Raquel and Bryce for the first time and I remember when we all went to the grass court to play. It was my first time to play on grass and I really enjoyed it.

When I met Roger for the first time, I was really excited. I tried to be perfect because I knew that I am going to make a videoshoot with “The Mr. Perfect.” My hair was supposed to be perfect and it was perfect. 🙂
When I heard that I was gonna hit the tweener between the legs, I was happy because it’s one of my favorite shots. I hit the tweener 12 times and I remember that one time I hit it between Roger and Raquel…..and I was really happy when I did that. At the end of the videoshoot, I gave the Romanian flag to Roger because I wanted to remind him that in his first week as number 1 in the world he played in Romania in Davis Cup.

I wanna thank Wilson Team for giving me the opportunity to play with the best player in history.

Thank you,
Bogdan!

BE NEXT with Wilson & Meet Roger Federer

Hey there,

Well, it;s 5:15am here in Paris and been up for a few hours already. Jet lag stinks!

Just got here yesterday with Nathan our new racket dude, as we will be doing a couple events with Spin Effect Technology this week. Today is Paris and we will have be at Tennis Club de Paris. I love that club and hope today goes well!! We will see! 🙂

Yesterday, I’m sure you saw Roger pull out another great win to hit 36 consecutive Grand Slam quarterfinals and 900th match win. WHOA!!  Even if it’s a rough day like yesterday, he finds a way to win… he shows is a champion each time he steps on the court… simply amazing….

And it just doesn’t stop on court, Roger wants to motivate the NEXT GEN to play tennis. Kids have the chance to meet Roger at this years US Open!!!

Go to http://www.wilson.com/benext to enter for your chance to win.

It’s a photo scramble game, which is super fun… I tested a few times before the start and I have to say I am rather impressed with the times people are bringing in. Fastest completion time thus far is 5 seconds… WTF?! They must really want to meet Roger!!! haha

Good luck and until later,

Tracy

I won the game with Roger, Mama!!! by Praveena Kesavan on behalf of Ronnie

Ronin Banerjee, aka Ronnie, is 4.5 years old – He could go on and on about tennis, but is understandably challenged to write his own blog. So, as his mom, this is the first homework assignment that I’m writing on his behalf and hopefully the last! 🙂

Our journey to the Wilson shoot started in August 2012 on Arthur Ashe Kid’s Day – Ronnie was 3.5 years old then but could keep a rally going with his dad – He is crazy about tennis – He could rattle the names of the top 5 players including their ranks, where they lived, the 4 Grand Slams, types of court they are played on, the number of Slams the big 4 have won and winners for the year etc and if I might add, much more fluently than his ABCs and numbers!!! On a bright August day we were all excited to see Ronnie hit a few balls and were also hoping we could catch a glimpse of the top seeds in the practice courts – Ronnie’s version of the story was very simple “I’m going to play at the US Open with the champions”.  The place was packed and there were many courts for kids of all ages… Ronnie played in most of the courts – often, with his father feeding the balls from outside the fence – Ronnie loves power and speed and his dad was his ball machine and coach all rolled into one.  Tracy from Wilson spotted Ronnie hitting balls and approached us about the casting for the Wilson shoot with Roger. We froze and all I could think was – Ronnie wanted to play with the Champions and here is his chance to play with the greatest of them all!!

The next few months were filled with anxiety – Tracy was in touch with us throughout – requesting videos, recent pictures and Ronnie’s tennis progress in general. Every email from Tracy meant progress and after several email exchanges including clothing size and shoe size, Tracy confirmed Ronnie’s selection in early February – Considering Roger had almost a god status in our family, Ronnie had no clue (and still doesn’t) what his achievement meant to us. But in Ronnie’s mind, it was Roger’s privilege to play with him and not the other way around.  And he practiced every day, the “Championship shot” as he called it, with which he was going to beat Roger and win the game!

Everything revolved around the shoot for the next month and we loved planning every moment of it – we were so ecstatic, we decided to take the week of the shoot off and make a vacation out of it…

It was a dream come true opportunity for us to have Ronnie shoot with the legend himself and Wilson organized it flawlessly. Ronnie got the Wilson Steam racket two weeks ahead of schedule so he could practice and get into the groove with the new racket.  Wilson took care of our travel needs very professionally and made it a pleasant experience for us.  Tracy and team had everything planned well – the media interviews, the shoot and they even got us some pictures of the shoot for memories. It was a night time shoot and it was great that the crew was very patient with Ronnie, and I was glad he was up to the occasion… Roger was a natural with kids, bonhomie he shared with the crew and his whole attitude was incredible. There is so much more than just tennis to learn from the master!

There was a shot where Roger had to hit a ball can on his serve. Roger took just a few shots to get it right and when he finally connected, he looked at Ron and said – did you like that Ronnie? , our dear son in all his innocence yelled back – “But you hit it just once Roger” – I was speechless but Roger threw a warm smile at Ronnie and said to us, “he is right, I hit it just once”… Even during his shoot with Ronnie, Roger continued to rally even after the shot was cut asking Ronnie if he was going to give up… When Ronnie did not yield, Roger netted the ball after a few shots and pretended he lost and that was the moment of victory for our son – he immediately looked at me and mimed – “I won the game mama!” – I thanked Roger profusely for giving Ronnie that winning moment – proving above all that he truly is a champion in every sense of the word.

Since it was a night shoot, we ended at 9 PM PST, which was technically midnight for Ronnie (we are from NJ). We managed to wrap up his shots quickly as he was clearly ready to go to bed.

Ronnie’s immediate reaction to the commercial when he saw it for first time was “I was so sleepy that day mama, can I play with Roger again?!!”

Ronnie’s wish did come true, he played with the greatest champion of them all….. at 4 yrs old….unbelievable….. But to play again??!!

Sincerely,

Praveena Kesavan

The Highest “High Five” of My Life by Raquel Pedraza

Roger Federer & Raquel Pedraza

Yes, that’s me high fiving the greatest man ever, Roger Federer!  When I first met Roger, I thought, “Wow!  This guy is a legend, he has won the most grand slam titles ever!”  It was thrilling to meet him.  Roger radiates confidence and he has a gift of sharing his enthusiasm for life.  Just being around him was fun, happy, and relaxing.  He truly cares about doing his best at whatever he does.  Working with Roger has taught me to be mindful and enjoy each moment life brings.  An awesome attitude towards life makes competing so much more rewarding.  I am so blessed to have met and worked with Roger, he has made a lasting impression upon me.    I appreciate all of his hard work and devotion to tennis and his passion for helping others all over the world.  He is an amazing human being!

Roger has a great sense of humor, he would crack jokes during takes and make everyone laugh.  When I was hitting swing volleys he would say, “Peg the boys!” and so I would go for Bryce and Bogdan and I hit one of them right in the hand, which was pretty funny.  Then Roger would give me a fist pump and then we would explode it.  Once I missed a swing volley and Roger was like, “No high five for that one!” and everyone would laugh.

The Wilson crew was so funny too!  I accidentally hit the camera man twice and so they brought out these huge 2x4s to hide themselves between the camera.  It was hilarious because I hit the camera man in the head.  Everyone was having fun on the set.

It seems as if that day with Roger was all a dream, but thankfully the awesome Wilson commercial keeps the dream alive.  Thank you Wilson for the incredible opportunity to be a part of your team!  Meeting Roger and everyone else at the shoot was an honor.  I love the passion and inspiration that goes into everything Wilson does!

Sincerely,

Raquel Pedraza

Not Your Average Tuesday Night in the Desert by Bryce Pereira

Roger Federer & Bryce Pereira

Roger Federer & Bryce Pereira on set at the Wilson shoot

Anyone who knows me, knows that Roger Federer is my all-time favorite tennis player. Hands down. No one else even comes close to Roger, in my mind. So imagine my surprise when I got a call from Tracy Singian of Wilson, asking me to be in a commercial with Roger Federer.

Roger Federer. ROGER FEDERER!! I couldn’t believe it. Tracy told me that Wilson had chosen 3 other juniors to be in the commercial as well. Wow. After I spoke with Tracy, I went back to my practice and I was fired up.

Finally, the day arrived. The commercial was being shot at the JW Marriott in Palm Desert. I had played on those courts lots of times in tournaments, so I was familiar with the atmosphere. I met Tracy last year when I did several videos for Wilson. I also knew Robin Fenlon, who filmed me for those videos. Both Tracy and Robin are cool and easy to work with so I knew the shoot was going to be fun.

But this was a much bigger production than last year’s shoot. When I arrived, I saw Roger through the fence, and there were lights and cameras and crew members everywhere. I went to change into my wardrobe and Tracy came over to say hi and said that there were media people there to do interviews with the juniors. Whoa. I was not prepared for that. My mom told me to stand up straight. Haha

I met Bogdan, the junior from Romania that had flown in for the shoot. I also met Ronnie, who is 4 years old. I already knew Raquel because we used to train together. All of us kids were so excited.

We warmed up a couple of courts over from where Roger was filming, and I saw him watching us. Then we got called over to meet him. I shook his hand. We did some scenes with a lot of action and Roger was having as much fun as we were. He talked to us between takes and I don’t know about the others, but I couldn’t believe how laid back and normal he was.

Then came the scene where I got to hit with Roger. I was so nervous. When the cameras started rolling, I heard Tracy tell my mom that I looked “tight.” Tracy was right. She talked to me and said to just have fun and let it go. We did a second take and I did. I felt really good about my backhand and I started to rip the ball. I was actually exchanging one-handed backhands with Roger Federer!!!!!!!!!!! The Greatest of All Time!! The ball was coming off of Roger’s racquet so cleanly. I had to focus extra hard so that I wouldn’t shank. Haha

After that scene, Roger asked me how long I had had a one-handed backhand. He was asking ME questions. How cool is that?! He told me what it was like going through juniors with a one-hander. I could definitely relate.

I think the commercial is going to be awesome.

I want to say thank you to Tracy, Robin, Mr. Muir, and the whole Wilson Team for giving me this opportunity. Everyone was so nice and they made the shoot so much fun. This was a night I will never, ever forget. It was a dream come true. I think back on it now and I still can’t believe it sometimes. I am very lucky. Life is good.

See you on the courts,

Bryce

Roger Federer leads Wilson Next Gen

Hey there,

Well, it’s almost Roland Garros time and we wanted to share this new video from Wilson Tennis and Roger.

Roger is not only a champion, but a great person and as you can tell from the video, a very happy and relaxed guy. It was so fun to see him hit with the kids… I think we all remember the first time we hit with someone we looked up to and needless to say, these kids were in seventh heaven!!!

In the next couple of days, you guys will get to know the kids in this video a little bit better…. some super talented young Wilson junior players: Bryce, Raquel, Bogdan and Ronnie!!!

We hope you enjoy this video as much as we did shooting it.

Stay tuned for the kids blogs!

Until later,

Tracy
