I won the game with Roger, Mama!!! by Praveena Kesavan on behalf of Ronnie

Roger Federer and Ronnie Banjeree on set at the Wilson Tennis shoot

Roger Federer and Ronnie Banjeree on set at the Wilson Tennis shoot

Ronin Banerjee, aka Ronnie, is 4.5 years old – He could go on and on about tennis, but is understandably challenged to write his own blog. So, as his mom, this is the first homework assignment that I’m writing on his behalf and hopefully the last! 🙂

Our journey to the Wilson shoot started in August 2012 on Arthur Ashe Kid’s Day – Ronnie was 3.5 years old then but could keep a rally going with his dad – He is crazy about tennis – He could rattle the names of the top 5 players including their ranks, where they lived, the 4 Grand Slams, types of court they are played on, the number of Slams the big 4 have won and winners for the year etc and if I might add, much more fluently than his ABCs and numbers!!! On a bright August day we were all excited to see Ronnie hit a few balls and were also hoping we could catch a glimpse of the top seeds in the practice courts – Ronnie’s version of the story was very simple “I’m going to play at the US Open with the champions”.  The place was packed and there were many courts for kids of all ages… Ronnie played in most of the courts – often, with his father feeding the balls from outside the fence – Ronnie loves power and speed and his dad was his ball machine and coach all rolled into one.  Tracy from Wilson spotted Ronnie hitting balls and approached us about the casting for the Wilson shoot with Roger. We froze and all I could think was – Ronnie wanted to play with the Champions and here is his chance to play with the greatest of them all!!

The next few months were filled with anxiety – Tracy was in touch with us throughout – requesting videos, recent pictures and Ronnie’s tennis progress in general. Every email from Tracy meant progress and after several email exchanges including clothing size and shoe size, Tracy confirmed Ronnie’s selection in early February – Considering Roger had almost a god status in our family, Ronnie had no clue (and still doesn’t) what his achievement meant to us. But in Ronnie’s mind, it was Roger’s privilege to play with him and not the other way around.  And he practiced every day, the “Championship shot” as he called it, with which he was going to beat Roger and win the game!

Everything revolved around the shoot for the next month and we loved planning every moment of it – we were so ecstatic, we decided to take the week of the shoot off and make a vacation out of it…

It was a dream come true opportunity for us to have Ronnie shoot with the legend himself and Wilson organized it flawlessly. Ronnie got the Wilson Steam racket two weeks ahead of schedule so he could practice and get into the groove with the new racket.  Wilson took care of our travel needs very professionally and made it a pleasant experience for us.  Tracy and team had everything planned well – the media interviews, the shoot and they even got us some pictures of the shoot for memories. It was a night time shoot and it was great that the crew was very patient with Ronnie, and I was glad he was up to the occasion… Roger was a natural with kids, bonhomie he shared with the crew and his whole attitude was incredible. There is so much more than just tennis to learn from the master!

There was a shot where Roger had to hit a ball can on his serve. Roger took just a few shots to get it right and when he finally connected, he looked at Ron and said – did you like that Ronnie? , our dear son in all his innocence yelled back – “But you hit it just once Roger” – I was speechless but Roger threw a warm smile at Ronnie and said to us, “he is right, I hit it just once”… Even during his shoot with Ronnie, Roger continued to rally even after the shot was cut asking Ronnie if he was going to give up… When Ronnie did not yield, Roger netted the ball after a few shots and pretended he lost and that was the moment of victory for our son – he immediately looked at me and mimed – “I won the game mama!” – I thanked Roger profusely for giving Ronnie that winning moment – proving above all that he truly is a champion in every sense of the word.

Since it was a night shoot, we ended at 9 PM PST, which was technically midnight for Ronnie (we are from NJ). We managed to wrap up his shots quickly as he was clearly ready to go to bed.

Ronnie’s immediate reaction to the commercial when he saw it for first time was “I was so sleepy that day mama, can I play with Roger again?!!”

Ronnie’s wish did come true, he played with the greatest champion of them all….. at 4 yrs old….unbelievable….. But to play again??!!

Sincerely,

Praveena Kesavan

Roger Federer leads Wilson Next Gen

Hey there,

Well, it’s almost Roland Garros time and we wanted to share this new video from Wilson Tennis and Roger.

Roger is not only a champion, but a great person and as you can tell from the video, a very happy and relaxed guy. It was so fun to see him hit with the kids… I think we all remember the first time we hit with someone we looked up to and needless to say, these kids were in seventh heaven!!!

In the next couple of days, you guys will get to know the kids in this video a little bit better…. some super talented young Wilson junior players: Bryce, Raquel, Bogdan and Ronnie!!!

We hope you enjoy this video as much as we did shooting it.

Stay tuned for the kids blogs!

Until later,

Tracy

Hey there,

Well, it has been a great few days…. when work consists of getting to play at the Innovaton Center, going to Piccolo Sogno, sitting on the floor at the Bulls game, playing pool at Rockit, getting a private tour of the Art Institute, eating at Sunda and having a blast with one of our players… YEAH I consider myself pretty lucky.

When I started at Wilson, I did not know a single person here in Chicago and I have been fortunate enough to meet some really cool people in the city who have made my experience here an extremely positive one.

So I would like to take this opportunity to thank these people for not only helping us this week with Grigor Dimitrov’s Chicago adventures, but for also always taking care of me and helping put a smile on my face. Tony Priolo, Ciro Longobardo, Billy Dec, Holli Williams, Carson Kern, Chris Robbins, Chris Dilillo and Erica Hilbert…. THANK YOU.

And to our new friends who we have met through the people mentioned above and helped create some special experiences for Grigor, Vince Pusateri and Chai Lee, Thank you.

As I said in my previous post Grigor Dimitrov is an extremely talented tennis player and on top of that he is a super nice kid….here is what we learned about Grigor this week: he is pretty good with a putter, is a killer pool player (didn’t miss a shot), loves art that has skulls & angels and most importantly, he is TONS OF FUN! It was a blast to have him in Chicago and it’s GREAT to have him on the Wilson team!!!

I am extremely excited to share the video with you next week, so it’s into the editing room we go!!!

You ready Chris, Chris and Erica?!

Until later,

Tracy

It’s all about heart

Hey there,

Well, in sports and in life… as Rod Tidwell in Jerry Maguire proves, it’s all about heart!!!

So here we are on a Monday night and we just finished an outstanding dinner with one of our top young guns Grigor Dimitrov and a few people from the office.

It is not very often that we spend time with our players in Chicago at Wilson HQ and this is a great opportunity for us to not only get more feedback on our products, but get more insight to the players and what they are about.

Tonight Grigor and the Wilson crew talked about favorite movies, the last meal we would have if we were stuck on a deserted island and all the important things to cover when at a dinner table! haha

It was a super fun dinner and really relaxed, which EVERYONE really needed.

Anyway, I am may be extremely biased about my opinion of Grigor, as we have worked closely together since he joined the Wilson team, but he is truly an AMAZING kid with SO MUCH HEART…. you can’t help but root for him and get on the ‘G-Train’!!!!! 😛

For Grigor to make the effort to come to Chicago during the off season to spend time at Wilson HQ during his ‘vacation’,  it means a lot to us and shows his great character overall. It just shows how important his relationship with his sponsors are to him and truly speaks volumes of the type of person he is….. it really shows tremendous respect and understanding to supporters. There is no question Grigor is one of the most talented players out there… and on top of that, he has the personality and charisma to bring tennis to another level.

Grigor reached a career high of #48 this week on the ATP Tour and this clearly only the beginning for him.

Let’s hope he can elevate and show just the world exactly what he is capable of.

Until later,

Tracy

ps I willwrite more later as tomorrow, we will have some fun stuff, but for now, enjoy the talent of the behind the back during a match!!!

Here’s to making every minute count!

Hey there,

So not much time to write, but want to say congrats to Roger Federer on 300 weeks at #1!! I am pretty certain that this record will hold for at least my lifetime… not sure what will happen first, Cubs win the World Series or someone beats Roger’s weeks at #1!! lol

Since it’s Sunday night and still have a ton to do before AM, check out a little something I wrote for an upcoming book by Scoop M on Roger… pretty much sums up my thoughts on the greatest player ever.

Also a big congrats to Vika for continuing to kick a** with her Wilson Juice! 6 titles this year and still reigning #1, great job!

Until later,

Tracy

Everyone knew that Roger Federer was special. It’s always a big question mark if someone will realize their true potential. Not only did Roger realize his potential, he exceeded everyone’s expectations and continues to amaze year after year. Just when everyone has already written him off, he reclaims the Wimby title and #1 ranking to set yet another record.
There has never been anyone in the game to set a standard so high ON and OFF the court.
My respect for Roger grew exponentially after seeing him do his media at prior to the start of Wimbledon. He’s defending champ and he looks relaxed and happy to engage in the interviews. He gives his undivided attention… in 5 different languages! You can tell he truly enjoys the entire process and looks like there is no other place that he would rather be than in tennis. Don’t really remember any former #1 players really putting in the time and effort he does. It’s really set an example for the Next Gen of players.
But probably the thing I get a kick out of most is watching players watch Roger practice. You never really see OTHER players just be in awe of other players… except when its Roger. And on top of that, players– his ‘peers’ want their own pictures with him. Maybe it’s how social media has changed the way we communicate… but you know history is being made when most of these ATP & WTA players are coming up to Roger like a fan to make sure they document it. You know they will say, “I was playing when”…

ROGER FEDERER SETS ALL-TIME RECORD FOR MOST WEEKS AT NO. 1

Roger Federer makes history with the Wilson Pro Staff tennis racket

Wilson tour player and 17-time Grand Slam record holder Roger Federer set a new all-time record today by becoming the first male tennis player to hold the world no. 1 ranking for 287 weeks total. Federer owns a plethora of historic records — each won with a Wilson tennis racket — and continues to surpass the legends of the game. Today, Federer beats Pete Sampras’ reign for most consecutive weeks on top of the ATP World Tour.

“To surpass my tennis idol’s record at this point in my career is an incredible feeling,” said Federer. “I have played some of my best tennis this year and am so fortunate to be a part of this sport that I love so much.”

Since January, Federer has been playing with his Wilson Pro Staff 90 tennis racket and reclaimed the world no. 1 ranking after his extraordinary match against Andy Murray in the men’s final at Wimbledon.

Federer has already won five titles this year and is guaranteed to hold the no. 1 ranking leading into the London Olympic Games later this month.

“Roger is an inspiration for all of us and should be as well for sports enthusiasts and professionals in all sports,” said Wilson General Manager Jon Muir. “His signature style and persona make him one of the most respected athletes of all time. We congratulate Roger on this wonderful achievement. Wilson is proud to have been part of this journey from the very beginning.“
