Kei Nishikori continues to make history

Kei Nishikori continues to lift Japan tennis to new heights.
This time he wins three consecutive matches to bring Japan to its first appearance in the Davis Cup quarterfinals.
We caught up with the champ and here is what he had to say.

What does it mean to you to bring Japan to its 1st Davis Cup quarterfinals?

It’s an amazing feeling. Japan Tennis is really improving and I am happy to see tennis grow in Japan like this.

You don’t play doubles very often, what was it like playing doubles with
Yasutaka Uchiyama?

It was a new experience. To be honest, I played very well in the doubles. I was very happy with that result.

You played 3 matches during this tie, Do you have a tip for kids when they have to play multiple matches in a day during jr. tournaments?

It’s always tough to play back to back.
I take very serious my warm up, cool down, etc. and always make sure you are prepared well.

Wilson Team Effort Brings the Funny

So I finally can go into depth on officially my favorite Wilson video I have done thus far!! 🙂

This Wilson Steam video is based on all those learning center ads you see on tv for the kids that are struggling at school and the learning center helps them get the best out of themselves.. blah blah blah.

It is my favorite piece we have done so far, the acting is so good that some of the feedback so far has been that people think we are being serious!! It’s a dramedy people!!! haha  Although I do think every junior tennis player has gone through these type of conversations with their parents after a tough loss though, right?!  😉

So how did we end up there?! So while I definitely had the Juice infomercial locked and loaded, I knew I needed something for Steam. After discussing my favorite informercials with Kari Brown, GM Jon Muir’s assistant (who has the great challenge of sitting accross from me daily) brings up a local ad that we see on tv often. The acting was so over the top awesome that we had to make it our own.

That’s what I love about this video, it was not just my idea…. so many people were involved and I feel lucky to work with so many cool and creative people!! We had Mario helped bring in some players, our juniors Gabby Andrews and Bryce Pereira, their fathers, mothers, coaches, aunts and uncles play the parents, my friend Brandis and her student Joe (he’s the kids that promises to try harder), Kei Nishikori makes an appearance, Robin behind the camera, cleaning the edits and then we had US Sales Manager Jeffery Adams do the voiceover! lol  Now for those of you who don’t know Jeffery, to have him talk as fast as he could during the “paid advertisement” part was the best part! It was definitely out of his comfort zone, but he did an amazing job! We did all his voiceovers in the IW hotel room and it looked weird with 3 of us sitting there, but it was super effective!! You guys have to pay attention to the great words he is saying UBER fast… someone very funny wrote it 😉

Also, wanted to recognize a great addition to the Wilson team, Robin Fenlon. He has been our digital videographer on the videos you saw from Indian Wells through now. He is  amazing fun to work with…. just by chance I met him through a friend and he has been a great asset to our social media and instrumental in making the scripts that I have had on the pages for a while  come alive!! Psyched to work with him… and even more psyched about what we have planned Roland Garros… can’t wait to share it with you guys!!!

Until later,

Ice Cream Showers- G’Day 14- 2012 Australian Open

Tracy Almeda-Singian and Mario Vergara

We gonna make you sweat, a night you won’t forget, are you ready for.. Ice cream showers, Ice Cream showers… lol ok, it really is Champagne Showers by LMFAO but ice cream is more important to the Wilson Tour Team than champagne!!! At least, most nights! 🙂

As you know, I am one for traditions and rituals, so yesterday we did our Slam tradition of getting our ice cream after teardown. This was someting that we started when Massimo was the director and I joined the team. Both him and I go crazy for ice cream and it is definitely the light at the end of the tunnel when you are in deep in boxes and counting string, bras, shirts, shorts and everything. There are a lot of fun parts of our jobs, more than the average bear, but counting strings and separating apparel are probably the most unenjoyable things to do, EVER. And ice cream is definitely the best motivation to get through it.

So we made it through another year of player services at a Slam and for some reason, this Australian Open was busier than years past… we did get most of the work we wanted done and had some fun in the process.

We will be on site today for some final videos, but this is officially my last blog for the 2012 Australian Open…

14 videos, 14 blog entries, 1 busted printer (Clement), 1 pair of sunglasses broken, 1 lost camera cover, countless Facebook updates & Tweets and Blackberry in tact…  2012 Australian is a wrap!!

Hopefully, you enjoyed the insights to the Wilson team and our experiences on the road.

Until Paris, Ciao….

Wilson renews Kei Nishikori

Kei Nishikori plays with the Wilson Tour BLX tennis racket

Top touring pro, Kei Nishikori, has signed a multi-year contract to continue with his long time racket sponsor, Wilson Racquet Sports.

Nishikori has been a member of the Wilson Team since he was 10 years old and in that time climbed to a career high #56 in the ATP World Tour rankings.  “I am pleased to continue playing and endorsing Wilson,” Nishikori said. “They have supported me so much throughout my career and I am excited to continue our relationship for many years to come.”

The #1 Japanese player returned to the tour this year after recovering from elbow surgery, and has been making a statement ever since. He won back to back ATP Challenger Tour titles at the Savannah Challenger followed by a win at the Sarasota Open. At this year’s US Open, Nishikori ousted the 11th seed Marin Čilić, 5-7, 7-6, 3-6, 7-6, 6-1, to advance to the third round. He was also named the 2008 ATP World Tour Newcomer of the Year.

Following his strong showing at the US Open, Nishikori will play a full fall schedule in Asia and Europe. “Kei is a dynamic player with an aggressive style of play,” said Massimo Calvelli, Global Tour Director of Wilson Racquet Sports.  “This partnership represents a significant piece of our overall marketing strategy.  Kei has a strong following in Japan and the local region and his influence on our overall sales is key and integral to the brand.” Nishikori is currently playing with the Wilson Tour BLX racket.
