G’Day! Australian Open 2012 Day 1

G’day from Melbourne!!! Well it’s 2012 and the Wilson team is looking forward to starting off the season well.

It’s been a good start thus far, with Kaia Kanepi and Milos Raonic taking their 2nd career titles this week. Congrats to both of them! With Kaia, it seems like the Wilson Juice tennis racket feels as good we thought it did and she had a great week!!

So today was one of the tougher flights from LAX-Melbourne, simply because it was during the Giants game… as some of you know, that is a tough sacrifice for me… but I guess the Wilson team comes first!! haha

Speaking of the Wilson team, young up and comer Eugenie Bouchard was on my flight to Melbourne… she had a great 2011 in ITF’s…look for her to start making waves on the pro tour this year…

In addition to seeing Genie and her coach, right when I landed in Sydney and sat down to get on my computer to check the Giants score who did I run into? Joel, one of our talented guys in R&D who help make sure our rackets are top notch!!! The photo above is how we look after 14+ hours of flying…. we look tired and stinky!! haha Least my Giants shirt was cool looking!! 😛

So got to the hotel and met up with Clement and Jacob gets here later tonight…. we are going to go check on the boxes to see everything made it and make sure nothing got held up at customs..(something always does!)

Goal for today… stay up till 9pm to limit screwy jet lag!!

Until tomorrow,

Swinging her Wilson Pro Open BLX tennis racket, Kaia Kanepi took down #5 seed Jankovic 6-2, 7-6 to reach the 4th round of the US Open for the first time in her career.

“Kaia’s powerful groundstrokes and aggressive play have helped her reach new heights,” said Renaud Vallon, Wilson Tour Manager Europe. “It’s been a fantastic summer for Kaia and it’s a great feeling to see her and many of our players playing their best tennis with our latest technology, BLX.”

Showing that tennis rackets do help bring results, it will be an all Wilson affair for the singles titles in Palermo and Prague when Wilson Tour Team players Flavia Pennetta, Kaia Kanepi, Agnes Szavay and Barbora Zahlavova Strycova take the court.

“Wilson prides itself on providing the best technology and equipment for each player to help them reach their goals,” said Global Tour Director Massimo Calvelli. “All four players use a different tennis racket from our line and I think that shows the great depth and diversity in our products. We believe we can find the right racket for any player.”

In Palermo, World #12 Flavia Pennetta will swing her Wilson Blade 98 tennis racket as she looks to defend her title when she takes on Kaia Kanepi. Recently, Kanepi has ignited her game playing with the Pro Open BLX as she reached her first Wimbledon quarterfinals and now this finals appearance.

Barbora Zahlavova Strycova swings the Tour BLX tennis racket

After using her Blade Team tennis racket to win Budapest last week, Agnes Szavay is looking to continue her nine match win streak and take her fifth career WTA Tour title when she takes on Barbora Zahlavova Strycova for the Prague title. Vying for her first WTA Tour title, Zahlavova Strycova will swing her Tour BLX tennis racket when she takes the court against Szavay on Sunday.

“There is no question in a players mind that the racket is one of the most important components of confidence on court,” said Kanepi. “Wilson provides the rackets that feel the best and I am happy to be at the top of my game with the new Wilson BLX racket.”
