ROGER FEDERER SETS ALL-TIME RECORD FOR MOST WEEKS AT NO. 1

Roger Federer makes history with the Wilson Pro Staff tennis racket

Wilson tour player and 17-time Grand Slam record holder Roger Federer set a new all-time record today by becoming the first male tennis player to hold the world no. 1 ranking for 287 weeks total. Federer owns a plethora of historic records — each won with a Wilson tennis racket — and continues to surpass the legends of the game. Today, Federer beats Pete Sampras’ reign for most consecutive weeks on top of the ATP World Tour.

“To surpass my tennis idol’s record at this point in my career is an incredible feeling,” said Federer. “I have played some of my best tennis this year and am so fortunate to be a part of this sport that I love so much.”

Since January, Federer has been playing with his Wilson Pro Staff 90 tennis racket and reclaimed the world no. 1 ranking after his extraordinary match against Andy Murray in the men’s final at Wimbledon.

Federer has already won five titles this year and is guaranteed to hold the no. 1 ranking leading into the London Olympic Games later this month.

“Roger is an inspiration for all of us and should be as well for sports enthusiasts and professionals in all sports,” said Wilson General Manager Jon Muir. “His signature style and persona make him one of the most respected athletes of all time. We congratulate Roger on this wonderful achievement. Wilson is proud to have been part of this journey from the very beginning.“

Swinging his Wilson Six.One Tour BLX racket, Roger Federer won the Stockholm Open to equal Pete Sampras’ 64 ATP Tour career titles, defeating Mayer 6-4 6-3 in the final.

“It’s fantastic to come here, face the pressure and be able to come through at the end,” said Federer. “I’ve won all my tournaments with a Wilson racket, won my 16th Grand Slam title this year with BLX and now to match Pete’s record, feels really good.”

He now shares fourth place in terms of most ATP Tour tournaments won, behind only Connors, Lendl and McEnroe.

Federer holds a plethora of records, including the coveted Grand Slam Men’s Singles titles record, most consecutive weeks at #1 on ATP World Tour and most consecutive major finals and semifinals appearances.

“Roger’s impact on the game is immeasurable,” said Wilson Global Tour Director Massimo Calvelli. “He sets the bar high for players on and off the court and continues to amaze. Wilson is proud to be part of his illustrious career.”
