European Junior Champ de Vroome signs with Wilson Sporting Goods

14 year old Indy de Vroome commits to using her Wilson Blade tennis racket for years to come.

“I love my Wilson racket and cannot imagine playing with anything else,” said the young Dutch player, de Vroome. “Since I switched, Wilson has helped me lift my game to a new level and I think Wilson can continue to help me reach my dream of playing pro tennis.”

The energetic teenager has been on the rise, winning 3 ITF Junior Circuit titles, reaching the finals and semis of two other ITF Junior Circuit events.  Most recently, de Vroome swung her Wilson Blade Team tennis racket to take the European Girls Singles title in the Under 14’s age division.

“Indy’s intensity and determination are great qualities we look for in a young player” said Jacob Martin, Wilson Junior Tour Manager Europe. “To have Indy within the 7 out of the 8 European Junior Champions that Wilson had this summer, really speaks highly for the future of the Wilson team.”

de Vroome will play several ITF Junior Circuit tournaments this summer before playing the Eddie Herr and Orange Bowl later this year.

Showing that tennis rackets do help bring results, it will be an all Wilson affair for the singles titles in Palermo and Prague when Wilson Tour Team players Flavia Pennetta, Kaia Kanepi, Agnes Szavay and Barbora Zahlavova Strycova take the court.

“Wilson prides itself on providing the best technology and equipment for each player to help them reach their goals,” said Global Tour Director Massimo Calvelli. “All four players use a different tennis racket from our line and I think that shows the great depth and diversity in our products. We believe we can find the right racket for any player.”

In Palermo, World #12 Flavia Pennetta will swing her Wilson Blade 98 tennis racket as she looks to defend her title when she takes on Kaia Kanepi. Recently, Kanepi has ignited her game playing with the Pro Open BLX as she reached her first Wimbledon quarterfinals and now this finals appearance.

After using her Blade Team tennis racket to win Budapest last week, Agnes Szavay is looking to continue her nine match win streak and take her fifth career WTA Tour title when she takes on Barbora Zahlavova Strycova for the Prague title. Vying for her first WTA Tour title, Zahlavova Strycova will swing her Tour BLX tennis racket when she takes the court against Szavay on Sunday.

“There is no question in a players mind that the racket is one of the most important components of confidence on court,” said Kanepi. “Wilson provides the rackets that feel the best and I am happy to be at the top of my game with the new Wilson BLX racket.”

Wilson Interns get into the blogging action

Hey Everyone!

I’m going to give you a little insight into daily life here at Wilson as one of two interns here for the summer. First a little bit of background about who I am– I am going to be a senior at Dartmouth College where I am co-captain of the Women’s Tennis Team. I grew up in the Chicago suburbs, so being able to work at Wilson and live at home is really a double treat. I was given the incredible opportunity to see a different side of the tennis industry by being named the ITA 2009 Wilson/ITA National Student-Athlete Promoter of the Year. I’ve played tennis since I was 10 years old so I have experienced the consumer side of the business, but being able to understand the immense amount of work, and huge number of people, it takes to get products out on the market has been the most eye opening part of my internship so far.

Personally, my activities vary drastically day to day, pretty much the only set thing is lunch at 12 o’clock! When I started I had no idea what I was going to be doing working in marketing on the racquet sports floor…and I am still definitely figuring it out. I’ve spent a lot of time entering orders for advisory staff members and steaming apparel for presentations. I’ve done player research for profiles to be sent in newsletters and updated many different databases…I am pretty sure I could use Microsoft Excel in my sleep now! Still, I have been able to sit in on some meetings to really get a feel for how an end product or promotion goes from being an idea, down through the grapevine, and finally to the consumer. Pretty cool considering I used to pick my racquets based on how I thought they looked!

Overall, I have really enjoyed my experience at Wilson…I get to talk about tennis all day, what could be better?!

Have a great weekend!

Photos from the Wilson Day with Dmitry Tursunov in CA

Thank you to Dmitry and all who participated for one great day of tennis!!!

Dmitry was entertaining as always and gave us some insight to the tour, how he trains, etc.

Here are just a few highlights from the day.

– On Dinara Safina, he said she is a great player and has been holding of her favorite chocolate cupcakes.

– When asked whether or not the Russian Davis Cup team likes to go to nightclubs after matches, Dmitry said jokingly, “When we win we celebrate by drinking and going out, when we lose we go and get drunk.”

– Dmitry considers his power the best part of his game

– Considers Andy Murray a difficult opponent because of the way he is able to change the tempo of the rallies from point to point

That’s just a little taste of what we gave us, a video will posted soon.

Free Clinic with Wilson Player Dmitry Tursunov

Hey web world,

Well, it’s been super busy since returning from London. This is a positive since RF won the big 15 and seems like quite a few of our players have had success in the past week or so. Congrats to Roger Federer, Andy Ram, Jonathan Erlich, Flavia Pennetta, Monica Niculescu, Jordan Kerr and Agnes Szavay!!! Go Wilson Team!!! 🙂

We have had discussions about what’s up for the next few months and 2010, so hopefully it’ll psych people up to get on the courts!

So it’s been great to be at Wilson HQ for a week or so….but now it’s back on the road for me.

This weekend we have Dmitry Tursunov doing a free clinic at the Avila Bay Athletic Club and Spa in Avila Beach, CA on Friday July 17th at 5pm.

If you are in the area and want to participate, please email wilsontour@wilson.com

Dmitry is one of the most personable guys on tour, so looking forward to having him get adults and kids amped about tennis!!

Have a great day and we will be back with some photos of the event.

Until later,
