G’Day! Australian Open 2012 Day 1

Image

G’day from Melbourne!!! Well it’s 2012 and the Wilson team is looking forward to starting off the season well.

It’s been a good start thus far, with Kaia Kanepi and Milos Raonic taking their 2nd career titles this week. Congrats to both of them! With Kaia, it seems like the Wilson Juice tennis racket feels as good we thought it did and she had a great week!!

So today was one of the tougher flights from LAX-Melbourne, simply because it was during the Giants game… as some of you know, that is a tough sacrifice for me… but I guess the Wilson team comes first!! haha

Speaking of the Wilson team, young up and comer Eugenie Bouchard was on my flight to Melbourne… she had a great 2011 in ITF’s…look for her to start making waves on the pro tour this year…

In addition to seeing Genie and her coach, right when I landed in Sydney and sat down to get on my computer to check the Giants score who did I run into? Joel, one of our talented guys in R&D who help make sure our rackets are top notch!!! The photo above is how we look after 14+ hours of flying…. we look tired and stinky!! haha Least my Giants shirt was cool looking!! 😛

So got to the hotel and met up with Clement and Jacob gets here later tonight…. we are going to go check on the boxes to see everything made it and make sure nothing got held up at customs..(something always does!)

Goal for today… stay up till 9pm to limit screwy jet lag!!

Until tomorrow,

Tracy

Andrea Petkovic joins Wilson World Record Attempt

WTA Tennis World #11 Andrea Petkovic announced that she will join Mardy Fish in Wilson’s attempt to set the Guinness Book of World Record for the “Most people to bounce a tennis ball on their racquet in one location” on August 26, 2011 at the Billie Jean King Tennis Center in Flushing Meadows, NY.

Petkovic is having a stellar year, using her Wilson Six.One Team BLX racquet to win her 2nd career singles title, reach the quarterfinals of Australian Open and French Open and catapult her to a career high #11 in the world.

“We are psyched to have Andrea on board for the event. Her fun and energetic personality is perfect for getting everyone on the courts,” said Mike Steck, Wilson Racquet Global Director of Marketing. “And we can’t wait to see what dance moves she busts out after we break the record!”

Fish and Petkovic are encouraging kids to get fit and get into sport. One of the first things players learn when starting tennis, is to bounce the ball on their racquet and the Guinness World Record attempt will have players of all ages do just that. The first 500 kids to participate in the world record attempt will receive a free Wilson junior racquet and a can of tennis balls so they can get started right away!

Inside Wilson Next Gen…………Ksenia Pervak

Ksenia Pervak swings her Wilson Tour BLX tennis racquet at Wimbledon

Wilson Next Gen’r Ksenia Pervak finds herself in the 4th round of Wimbledon for the first time in her career.

The 2009 Australian Open Junior Champ has been steadily climbing up the WTA ranks. Ksenia already owns 7 ITF Singles & 2 ITF Doubles titles,  reached her first WTA Tour quarterfinal earlier this year and reached a career high #83 in April. She now finds herself in the 4th round of Wimbledon after using her Wilson Tour BLX tennis racquet to defeat #22 seed Peer, Parmentier & #11 seed Andrea Petkovic. Next up, she will take on Paszek tomorrow.

We caught up with Ksenia to get some insight to this fierce competitor.

What is your favorite thing to do off court?

Ksenia: Hm, I love to sing a lot, and I’m pretty good with that! I like to go shopping with my friends, and spend time with my family…. it’s really nice, cause they live in another country so the time is special

What makes you laugh?

Ksenia: Actually my friends, my small brother, I mean people who are around me (my team), I really enjoy every moment I’m with them

What is your favorite thing to cook?

Ksenia: I can cook a lot of things, but the best is Borsch (Russian soup)….so inevitably I will be a good wife in the future lol

Who is your favorite actor/actress?

Ksenia: My favourite are the Russians. I think they are the best ones, but I’m a patriot.

How long have you been with Wilson?

Ksenia: Such a hard question.. I’ve been playing with Wilson all my tennis years, I love it so much.

What do you love about your Wilson racquet?

Ksenia: Everything is perfect, the rackets, the Wilson Team…. I am really happy that I’m a part of it.

Dimitrov continues to rise with Wilson BLX

Grigor Dimitrov plays with the Wilson Six.One Tour BLX tennis racket

Dimitrov continues to rise with Wilson BLX

Grigor Dimitrov swung his Wilson Six.One Tour BLX tennis racket to take his third straight ATP Tour Challenger title in Bangkok.

Dimitrov has now won 27 of his last 28 matches and is slated to reach another career high #136 on the ATP World Tour this week after gaining 80 ATP Tour points.

Dimitrov is starting to come into his own and prove why he is one of the top prospects of Wilson’s Next Gen.

We caught up with the 19 year old Dimitrov shortly after his win.

Q:What are your goals till end of year and 2011?

Grigor Dimitrov: Before the end of this year, I would like to get into Top 100 to get a jump start for Australian Open. And 2011 is gonna be an exciting year for me, so I’m looking forward to it. And of course, I have high expectations for my game and attack the Top 50, but most important is to stay healthy and in good condition.

Q: What is the picture/screen saver on your Blackberry?

Grigor Dimitrov: On my BB my picture is: black and white wallpaper over looking New York City made by Henri Silberman!

Q: What is your off court style?

Grigor Dimitrov: I don’t know from where should I start!! haha. I like clothes a lot. Actually in the end of the day, I’m trying to get off the tennis gear, when I go for dinner or have time off. Love stores, you can find all sorts of nice stuff in outlets and for sure in the expensive top brands stores. I personally like retro and rebel style, therefore my favorite designer was Alexander McQueen. All of his lines and models were different every time and you can find your style in it and you can express yourself in the way you want.

Q: Who would you like to see in concert?

Grigor Dimitrov: Well, I like all types of music but if I could really pick one, that would be the rapper Lil Wayne. I’ve been following him for a while and I like the background of his life and way to the top.

Q: What do you love about your Wilson Six.One Tour BLX?

Grigor Dimitrov: Simple: It’s THE BEST racket ever!!!
