American Alison Riske Reaches 1st WTA Tour Semifinal
Alison Riske swung her Wilson Tour BLX tennis racket to victory as she pulled the upset of the tournament defeating #3 seed Wickmayer 6-7, 6-4, 6-3 and reach her first WTA Tour semifinal in Birmingham, England.
Riske, who is known for her flat, penetrating groundstrokes, has made an incredible run at the AEGON Championships in Birmingham.
It is a tournament of firsts for the 19 yr old Riske, as she qualified into the 2010 AEGON Classic in Birmingham and defeated Top 100 player Zahlavova to mark her first WTA Tour career victory, then backed up her first win with an impressive 6-2, 6-4 defeat over World No.50 Wozniak for her first win over a Top 50 player and defeated former Top 10 player Anna Chakvetadze to reach her first WTA Tour quarterfinals. Today marked her first win over a Top 20 player with her defeat over Wickmayer.
“Alison is a terrific competitor and this is great for American tennis,” said Wilson Tour Manager Americas Adam Schaechterle. “We look forward to seeing what she does next.”
