In a field stacked with world-class tennis stars, Wilson Rising Star Petra Martic stunned WTA Tour No. 15 Yanina Wickmayer 6-4, 3-6, 7-5 to advance to the second round of the Open GDF Suez.

Using her new Wilson Tour BLX tennis racket, Martic ripped blistering ground strokes and demonstrated her stamina by saving three match points to hold off Wickmayer and pull off the 1st Top 20 win of her young career.

“It’s a surprise for me. I was not expecting it at all. I was skeptical about my chances in entering the court. But early in the match I felt I had chances and I took it,” said Martic.

Currently ranked number 82 on the WTA Tour, 18 year old Martic is anticipated to have an outstanding year.

“Petra has a tremendous amount of talent and it’s great to see her coming into her own as a player,” says Renaud Vallon, Wilson Tour Manager Europe. “This is a great win for her and adds to her confidence to make that next big jump.”

Martic will now meet fellow Wilson player Agnes Szavay in the second round.
