2010 Wilson Rising Stars

Kristina Mladenovic with her new Wilson Tour BLX tennis racket

In the summer of 2009, Melanie Oudin captured the hearts of not only of Americans, but tennis fans everywhere with her spectacular performance at the US Open.  Oudin reached the quarterfinals, outlasting three world renowned players: No. 4 Dementieva, No. 29 Sharapova and No. 13 Petrova.  Only 17 at the time, Oudin impressively notched two victories over Top 10 players and three over Top 20.  Using her Wilson Blade Tour tennis racket, Oudin jumped to a No. 42 ranking and cemented herself as a player to beat on the WTA Tour.  Although it may seem like she appeared out of nowhere, Melanie Oudin had already been on Wilson’s radar.  In 2009, she was part of Wilson’s Rising Stars Team, a collection of players under the age of 21 that are predicted to have outstanding seasons and advance on the ATP and WTA Tour.

The young and talented athletes that make up the 2010 Wilson Rising Stars Team have already made waves on the junior circuit and pro tour, but like Oudin did last year, they look to achieve a breakout season in 2010.

At just 18 years old, Petra Martic has catapulted herself to No. 82 on the WTA Tour rankings, impressively qualifying and reaching the second round at both Roland Garros and the US Open in 2009.  Using her Wilson Tour 95 BLX racket, Martic is expected to continue on her path to becoming a WTA Tour sensation.

Joining Martic on the 2010 Rising Stars Team is 16 year old Kristina Mladenovic, the 2009 ITF World Junior Champion and French Open Girls Singles Champion. Now powered by her Tour BLX racket, Mladenovic will look to reach above her career high of No.201 on the WTA Tour.

On the Men’s Side, the 2010 Rising Stars Team is led by Andrey Kuznetsov (18 yrs old), Daniel Berta (17), and Denis Kudla (17).

Kuznetsov, using his Blade 98 racket, won the 2009 Wimbledon Boys Singles title. He is ranked No. 10 on the ITF Junior Circuit and No. 302 on the ATP Pro Tour.

Berta had an impressive year in 2009, winning the French Open Boys’ Singles title and ending the year at the top of ITF Junior Circuit. With help from his Six.One 95 BLX racket, Berta is projected to make rapid progress in 2010.

Kudla, using the Blade 98 racket, boasts the No. 3 ITF Junior ranking and has already notched a singles title in 2010 at the ITF Junior Circuit Grade A Casablanca Cup.

The rest of Wilson’s 2010 Rising Stars Team is rounded out with exciting prospects that promise to become the champions of the next generation. Although many already feature impressive resumes, these young players are expected to have breakout seasons in 2010.

Wilson prides itself on choosing the best, most talented young players; In 2009, 9 of 12 Grand Slam Junior Singles finalists were members of Wilson’s Rising Stars.  Watch for Martic, Berta and all of 2010’s Rising Stars to use their Wilson rackets as they make tour headlines and rise in the rankings.
