Flavia Pennetta Digs Deep to Reach the US Open Quarterfinals
Flavia Pennetta used her Wilson [K]Blade 98 racket to defeat #7 seed Zvonareva in a thrilling 3-6, 7-6 (6), 6-0 battle.
Pennetta won over the New York crowd over by showing enormous heart, persevering and playing aggressively when her back was against the wall.
Flavia clawed her way back into the match, she saving six match points in the second set to level the match at one set a piece and gave herself the opportunity to reach the US Open singles quarterfinals for the second consecutive year.
After coming from behind, Flavia left her opponent dejected and proceeded to win the third set 6-0.
Pennetta’s outstanding summer included titles in Palermo and Los Angeles, semifinal appearances in Cincinnati and New Haven and her first ever top ten appearance. Pennetta became the 1st Italian ever to reach the Top 10 on the WTA Tour.
