WILSON RACQUET SPORTS & KEI NISHIKORI PARTNER WITH SOLES4SOULS AT SWETKA’S

Kei Nishikori swings his Tour BLX tennis racket

Wilson Racquet Sports, the leading tennis manufacturer in the world, is proud to announce a partnership with Soles4Souls, the international shoe charity.

On Saturday, February 5, from 12:30 – 2:00 p.m., Wilson Racquet Sports will be partnering with San Jose tennis specialty store, Swetka’s Tennis Shop, to offer tennis consumers the opportunity to trade in their current tennis shoes from any brand and purchase new Wilson adult tennis shoes at half the retail price. As a part of this very special day, professional tennis player and Wilson athlete, Kei Nishikori, will be appearing at Swetka’s to sign autographs for his fans. Nishikori, currently ranked #70 in the world and from Japan, is one of the most popular and promising young tennis stars globally and is scheduled to play in next week’s SAP Open men’s professional tournament in San Jose, California.

Every 9 seconds, Soles4Souls gives away another pair of shoes to someone in need. The shoe charity has earned glowing endorsements from Hollywood stars and professional athletes, but the people that truly make the non-profit organization effective are those who clean out their closets to personally drop off their ‘gently worn’ shoes at a participating location.

“Soles4Souls makes such a difference in the lives of so many and has really helped us to ensure we stay true to our core values. Health and wellness is important not only for our feet and body but also for our environment. Wilson and Swetka’s are happy to be pairing up to contribute to this cause,” said Claire Ortiz, Global Business Director of Apparel & Footwear at Wilson Racquet Sports. “As the number #1 global brand in tennis and leader in performance tennis products, we are excited to help people around the world and truly make a difference.”

Soles4Souls and Wilson Racquet Sports will be collecting your gently worn tennis footwear or monetary contributions to ship to people in need, whether they are victims of natural disasters or subject to living in extreme poverty. It is estimated that Americans have 1.5 billion pairs of unused shoes lying in their closets. The charity can use each and every one of these pairs to make a tangible difference in someone’s life.

“Wilson Racquet Sports is a terrific partner and we are excited they are offering customers a great way to get involved in our mission,” said Wayne Elsey, Founder and CEO of Soles4Souls. “Their efforts will benefit many people in need and we are proud to have their support,” he said.

Tomorrow Taylor Dent will take Centre Court at Wimbledon swinging his Wilson Blade 98 tennis racket and sporting his all new Wilson apparel when he takes on ATP World Tour #3 Djokovic.

“I am ready to rock Centre Court tomorrow with my Wilson gear,” said Taylor Dent smiling. “Wilson has been a big part of my tennis career from the beginning and I’m excited to be wearing the new clothing line.  The clothes look and feel almost as great as my rackets do.”

Taylor Dent owns 4 career ATP Tour titles and reached a career high #21 on the ATP World Tour in 2005.

After recovering from a devastating back injury, Dent returned to the tour in 2009 and reached the 4th round of the Sony Ericsson Open, defeating Almagro and Robredo in the process. Later that year he reached the 3rd round of the US Open, where he upset Feliciano Lopez 1st round, setting the stage for a second round matchup against Navarro. After winning that grueling five setter, Dent famously climbed to the umpire’s microphone to thank the crowd for their support, and then enjoyed a victory lap around the stadium to the delight of the fans.  Dent hopes for another crowd-pleaser on Center Court tomorrow.

“Taylor Dent is one of the great stories in American tennis and we a proud to have him on the Wilson team,” says Wilson Tour Manager Americas, Adam Schaechterle. “We look forward to seeing him bring his big serve and volley game to Centre Court tomorrow.”

Keothavong uses All New Wilson Equipment in Successful Comeback
In her first main draw event after more than six months out with injury, Anne Keothavong used her Wilson Tour BLX tennis racket to reach the Cellular South Cup semifinals in Memphis.
As part of her comeback from knee surgery, Keothavong  was looking for a fresh start in 2010, so she worked closely with the Wilson team to find the right equipment to make sure she would make a strong return.
Now equipped with a new Wilson BLX racket, the new Wilson shoes and all Wilson apparel, she walked onto the Memphis courts with a new found confidence.
“I am excited to add Wilson apparel and footwear to my arsenal,” said Keothavong. “Coming back from a knee injury, it was extremely important for me to find the right equipment to give me the additional support and cushion I need and my Wilson’s are perfect! Wilson has been the leader in design and innovation in tennis rackets and now they have raised the bar with the new clothes and footwear,” says Keothavong.
Playing aggressively and looking cool in her new attire, Keothavong sealed her win over the WTA Tour world #87 Sprem in an hour and 11 minutes to reach her second Memphis semifinal.
“Anne’s determination and commitment to excellence is simply amazing,” said Claire Ortiz, Wilson Global Director of Apparel and Footwear. “This is just the start of her resurgence on tour and we are proud to have her in Wilson from head to toe.”

Anne Keothavong will be in action in Indian Wells for the BNP Paribas starting March 10.
