Outstanding 2012 Drives Momentum for Wilson Tennis Athlete and New Technology Success for 2013 Australian Open

Coming off an exceptional 2012 on tour and a year with considerable growth in Wilson’s business and brand position, Wilson Tennis (www.wilsontennis.com) is in top form for the Australian Open with defending women’s champion Victoria Azarenka, Wilson-career player Roger Federer and 2012 US Open winner Serena Williams, fresh off her title at the Brisbane International Tournament. With the introduction of new Blade™ rackets, along with the new Steam and top selling Juice® and Pro Staff® rackets, Wilson is positioned well to continue its growth in 2013.

“Our athletes had an incredible 2012,” said Jon Muir, general manager of Wilson Racquet Sports. “Combined with very strong business results, we have fantastic momentum heading into 2013 and the Australian Open. We developed an amazing pipeline of new products that drove our growth in 2012 and our player’s success on tour with these same products further fueled our development. We are looking forward to seeing some of our new technologies and new head to toe softgoods collections help our player’s success for the Australian Open and throughout 2013.”

Serena Williams continues her success with Wilson’s new Blade racket for 2013, winning the 2013 Brisbane event, which marks her 47th career title and extends her dominant performances to 35 wins in her last 36 matches.  Wilson tour players produced other milestones at Brisbane: Grigor Dimitrov broke through to the finals with the Pro Staff; and Kei Nishikori reached the semis playing with the Steam.

Heading into 2013, Wilson has also signed French player Gael Monfils, who has switched to Wilson’s new Blade racket along with Russian Vera Zvonareva, winner of last year’s Australian Open’s women’s doubles title, playing with the new Steam 99.   Along with Wilson’s new Blade and Steam racket ranges, Wilson’s head to toe players will be using the new Rush Pro shoe and wearing our spring season apparel collection.

Congrats Serena! MORE WIN

Congrats Serena! MORE WIN

Serena Williams, Wilson player and two-time Olympic gold medalist, claimed the coveted Wimbledon title for the fifth time in her career today, securing her 14th career Grand Slam win and 42nd career title. She defeated Agnes Radwanska 6-1, 5-7, 6-2 in a tough battle, with her Wilson Blade Team racket.

Williams came out strong winning the first set in just 36 minutes. After a brief rain delay, Radwanska came back winning the first game and the second set. Williams focused on her control in the third set, tying it at 2-2 and keeping the lead to win the third set and her fifth Wimbledon title.

“I was on my game today,” said Williams. “It has been a great two weeks of tennis for me. Wimbledon is so special and this win means even more being an Olympic year. I can’t wait to come back to the All England Club in a few weeks and compete in the Olympics.”

This is Williams’ 42nd WTA title and she has had a Wilson racket in hand for all her title wins. She has won more major titles in singles, doubles, and mixed doubles than any other active player, male or female.

With this win, Williams moves to no. 4 in the WTA   rankings and is the highest ranked American woman on the tour.

“Serena fought hard today and achieved what will no doubt be considered a pivotal win in her career,” said Renaud Vallon, global tour director of Wilson Racquet Sports. “As a long-time Wilson family member, we have seen her excel many times at this celebrated tournament; we are proud to be a part of her continued success.”

The Wilson Blade Team flex and pinpoint accuracy make it the racket of choice among top professionals, including Serena and her sister Venus. The larger head size provides more punch, while the lighter weight gives players greater maneuverability for hitting big shots with increased control.

Big timing

Vika Azarenka practice ends, Roger Federer’s begins

So yesterday/early this morning, I was praying for players to show….. well, the power of prayer is strong. ;)

Today, we were able to shoot video of Roger Federer, Victoria Azarenka, Serena Williams and many other players.

It’s not very often where we work with our big guns all in the same day and they all practice on same day and are on the same schedule etc… it was crazy!!

The coolest thing of the day was having Vika practice first with a full crowd and then the frenzy be elevated even more when Roger arrived to practice on that court directly after. To have two of the sports top players in the same little space, well it was deafening noise from the crowd!!

We ended up getting more than what we hoped for, so now it’s a matter of going into the editing room and actually creating the video. Can’t wait to see!! :)

It has been a super long week and I am looking forward to doing the ‘normal’ work……..This is probably the most conflicted I have ever been about a shoot, so many parts were so awesome….. and there were SOOOO MANY challenges that totally took us all out of our comfort zone…. guess it’s like anything else, you work hard enough and push yourself beyond your comfort level,  you end up with exceptional results.

Now it’s 1:15am and it’s time to catch up on emails, review the Mardy Fish video from LA and oh yeah, maybe get some sleep!! ;)

Cheers to the challenges….

Until later,

Wilson’s Next Generation Sweep Roland Garros Junior Singles Titles, Again

2010 Roland Garros Junior Champions Agustin Velotti & Elina Svitolina

Wilson’s Next Generation Sweep Roland Garros Junior Singles Titles, Again

For the second consecutive year, Wilson players take the Roland Garros Boys and Girls singles titles. Last year, Kristina Mladenovic and Daniel Berta lifted the Roland Garros trophies and went on to finish the year #1 on the ITF Junior Circuit for 2009. This year, using their Wilson Blade rackets, Agustin Velotti and Elina Svitolina take home the Roland Garros Junior Singles titles.

Using his Wilson Blade 98 tennis racket, Agustin Velotti won the Roland Garros Boys Singles crown when he beat Collarini 6-4 7-5 to become the first Argentine to lift the title since Coria in 1999. Coming into the tournament unseeded, this was no easy feat for the Velotti, as he defeated #15 seed Baluda and 2010 Australian Open Junior Champion Fernandes en route to the title.

The 18 year old Argentine Velotti, who is now ranked #2 on the ITF Junior Circuit, recognizes Wilson as big part of his success.

Wilson has been a big supporter of me and my tennis for many years,” said Velotti, who signed a long term deal with Wilson last year. “The racket is the most important part to a player feeling confident on the court and I’m absolutely delighted to have won Roland Garros with my Blade racket.”

Like VelottiElina Svitolina was also unseeded and fought her way through the draw, taking down #19 seed Pipiya, # 4 seed Nastja Kolar,  #9 seed Beatrice Capra en route to the crown.

Playing for the first time at Roland Garros, 15 year old Svitolina used her Wilson Blade Team racket to defeat Jabeur 6-2 7-5 to take her 1st Grand Slam junior title and lift her ranking to #4 on the ITF Junior Circuit.

“I played really well this week and I look forward to playing Serena now,” Svitolina said jokingly.  When asked about being part of Wilson’s next generation of players, she said “Wilson has the best players and it’s really great to keep Wilson’s streak going at Roland Garros. I love my racket and couldn’t imagine playing with anything else.”
