A Great Day with Wilson! by Ashley Kratzer

I had a great day participating in the video shoot for Wilson. I was very honored to have been invited to participate in such a wonderful opportunity. Even though the photo shoot took place in Miami I couldn’t wait to fly there from Southern California. When I arrived I was very excited to see all the crew and set up, the wardrobe trailer and everything that was going on for the video shoot. The 3 other kids I met, Morgan, Noah and Dylan were really cool and we had fun hanging out together.

The best part about the day was when Serena arrived on set. She was very nice and friendly! Serena laughed with everyone and made everybody feel very comfortable and relaxed while shooting the video. Getting the chance to hit balls with the worlds number one player was a thrill for us all! At one point during shooting a flock of parrots landed in the trees above us and wouldn’t stop chirping. They were so loud that the crew had to stop the shoot and make loud noises to scare them away. We all had a good laugh at that. At the end of the day it started to rain which was a bummer for me because I was going to get the chance to hit with Victoria Azarenka. Although I did get to see other players arrive such as Petra Kvitova and Kei Nishikori. It was all very exciting! I had such a great day!

I want to thank Tracy Singian and a special thanks to Serena Williams. I feel so lucky to have met her and to have been a part of this special video. I’d also like to thank Wilson for the wonderful opportunity and I greatly appreciate everything Wilson does for my tennis game.

Ultimate Birthday by Noah Makarome

A typical birthday for me would consist of just hanging out with my family and friends and eating birthday cake. However, about a week before my 14th birthday, I received an invitation that was going to give me the best birthday present ever. I was handed the opportunity of a lifetime – to shoot a Wilson ad with the greatest women’s player ever: Serena Williams.
When I arrived on set on the morning of the shoot, I was astonished when I saw the number of crew members that were needed for the production. With this being my first shoot, I didn’t know what to expect at all. However, everyone was very cordial which helped me to relax. The crew shot several takes of my friends and I repeatedly performing tasks for the video, which was time consuming and fun at the same time. There was actually a lot more waiting time than you would think! Everyone on set was having a great time and it hardly felt like there was any work involved. The entire Wilson team kept the atmosphere alive and joyful and they were very patient when working with me. Their professionalism was a great asset in saving time and maintaining proficiency.
Serena arrived in the afternoon, and meeting her was an inspiration for my friends and I. To meet the winner of 16 singles Grand Slams and 13 doubles Grand Slams was unreal. She was really friendly and I got the opportunity to ask her questions about her career and all. Serena was very professional when it came down to the business of shooting the scenes, and it showed me how to act in situations like those.
The Wilson team handled the whole experience very professionally and made it very convenient for my family and I. They took care of hotels and planned the day perfectly. I would like to thank Tracy Singian and the entire Wilson team for giving me this opportunity to star along with one of the greats of tennis in their commercial. I don’t think I could have received a better 14th birthday present!

Best Day of My Life by Bogdan Borza

The first time I heard about the Wilson shoot I was really excited. I couldn’t believe it was true! From that moment, I started to practice harder and harder .

When I arrived in Palm Springs, Tracy waited for me at the airport and she drove me to the hotel. On the road she told me about my schedule for next couple of days .

Next day, I woke up happy because I knew that it was going to be a really good day for me…..I played with David Goffin, Alexandr Dolgopolov and one of my favorite players in the world Grigor Dimitrov. After a long day I went to bed early because I knew that next day was gonna be awesome.

I woke up and I said:”Finally ! The biggest day of my life has arrived!”
On that day, I met Raquel and Bryce for the first time and I remember when we all went to the grass court to play. It was my first time to play on grass and I really enjoyed it.

When I met Roger for the first time, I was really excited. I tried to be perfect because I knew that I am going to make a videoshoot with “The Mr. Perfect.” My hair was supposed to be perfect and it was perfect. :)
When I heard that I was gonna hit the tweener between the legs, I was happy because it’s one of my favorite shots. I hit the tweener 12 times and I remember that one time I hit it between Roger and Raquel…..and I was really happy when I did that. At the end of the videoshoot, I gave the Romanian flag to Roger because I wanted to remind him that in his first week as number 1 in the world he played in Romania in Davis Cup.

I wanna thank Wilson Team for giving me the opportunity to play with the best player in history.

Thank you,
Bogdan!

Serena Williams serves up her 16th Grand Slam win with the Wilson Blade

WTA World #1 Serena Williams wins her 16th Grand Slam title, defeating Maria Sharapova 6-4, 6-4 for the Roland Garros title. The two-time French Open champ was in control with her Wilson Blade tennis racket throughout the tournament, only dropping one set en route to the title.

“It’s great to get the win here in Paris,” said Serena Williams. “Wilson has been with me every step of the way and I can’t imagine playing with anything else. The Blade gives me the feel I need to stay in control of every point. It feels great to win here again!”

Williams has been on a tear in the past year, winning her 5th Wimbledon title, taking home two Olympic Gold medals to complete the career Slam and regain the #1 ranking on the WTA. Williams also had a 26-0 start to the 2013 season, marking the best start to a season since 1997 (Hingis) and set a new singles season prize money record of $7,923,920.

“Serena’s results over the last 12 months have been amazing,” stated Wilson General Manager, Jon Muir. “All of us at Wilson continue to be proud of Serena and her ongoing career achievements on the court.”

Wilson Blade was designed for hard hitting, aggressive players. It’s a control racket for the modern, aggressive game and upgraded with Amplifeel for enhanced feel and a new construction for increased performance. As the choice of many tour and Next Gen players, the Blade is the future of control.

I won the game with Roger, Mama!!! by Praveena Kesavan on behalf of Ronnie

Ronin Banerjee, aka Ronnie, is 4.5 years old – He could go on and on about tennis, but is understandably challenged to write his own blog. So, as his mom, this is the first homework assignment that I’m writing on his behalf and hopefully the last! :)

Our journey to the Wilson shoot started in August 2012 on Arthur Ashe Kid’s Day – Ronnie was 3.5 years old then but could keep a rally going with his dad – He is crazy about tennis – He could rattle the names of the top 5 players including their ranks, where they lived, the 4 Grand Slams, types of court they are played on, the number of Slams the big 4 have won and winners for the year etc and if I might add, much more fluently than his ABCs and numbers!!! On a bright August day we were all excited to see Ronnie hit a few balls and were also hoping we could catch a glimpse of the top seeds in the practice courts – Ronnie’s version of the story was very simple “I’m going to play at the US Open with the champions”.  The place was packed and there were many courts for kids of all ages… Ronnie played in most of the courts – often, with his father feeding the balls from outside the fence – Ronnie loves power and speed and his dad was his ball machine and coach all rolled into one.  Tracy from Wilson spotted Ronnie hitting balls and approached us about the casting for the Wilson shoot with Roger. We froze and all I could think was – Ronnie wanted to play with the Champions and here is his chance to play with the greatest of them all!!

The next few months were filled with anxiety – Tracy was in touch with us throughout – requesting videos, recent pictures and Ronnie’s tennis progress in general. Every email from Tracy meant progress and after several email exchanges including clothing size and shoe size, Tracy confirmed Ronnie’s selection in early February – Considering Roger had almost a god status in our family, Ronnie had no clue (and still doesn’t) what his achievement meant to us. But in Ronnie’s mind, it was Roger’s privilege to play with him and not the other way around.  And he practiced every day, the “Championship shot” as he called it, with which he was going to beat Roger and win the game!

Everything revolved around the shoot for the next month and we loved planning every moment of it – we were so ecstatic, we decided to take the week of the shoot off and make a vacation out of it…

It was a dream come true opportunity for us to have Ronnie shoot with the legend himself and Wilson organized it flawlessly. Ronnie got the Wilson Steam racket two weeks ahead of schedule so he could practice and get into the groove with the new racket.  Wilson took care of our travel needs very professionally and made it a pleasant experience for us.  Tracy and team had everything planned well – the media interviews, the shoot and they even got us some pictures of the shoot for memories. It was a night time shoot and it was great that the crew was very patient with Ronnie, and I was glad he was up to the occasion… Roger was a natural with kids, bonhomie he shared with the crew and his whole attitude was incredible. There is so much more than just tennis to learn from the master!

There was a shot where Roger had to hit a ball can on his serve. Roger took just a few shots to get it right and when he finally connected, he looked at Ron and said – did you like that Ronnie? , our dear son in all his innocence yelled back – “But you hit it just once Roger” – I was speechless but Roger threw a warm smile at Ronnie and said to us, “he is right, I hit it just once”… Even during his shoot with Ronnie, Roger continued to rally even after the shot was cut asking Ronnie if he was going to give up… When Ronnie did not yield, Roger netted the ball after a few shots and pretended he lost and that was the moment of victory for our son – he immediately looked at me and mimed – “I won the game mama!” – I thanked Roger profusely for giving Ronnie that winning moment – proving above all that he truly is a champion in every sense of the word.

Since it was a night shoot, we ended at 9 PM PST, which was technically midnight for Ronnie (we are from NJ). We managed to wrap up his shots quickly as he was clearly ready to go to bed.

Ronnie’s immediate reaction to the commercial when he saw it for first time was “I was so sleepy that day mama, can I play with Roger again?!!”

Ronnie’s wish did come true, he played with the greatest champion of them all….. at 4 yrs old….unbelievable….. But to play again??!!

Sincerely,

Praveena Kesavan
