Wilson On the Rise Players Jesse Levine and Melanie Oudin Hit Career Firsts to Keep US hopes Alive
Wilson On the Rise players Jesse Levine and Melanie Oudin will be in Wimbledon action on Saturday June 27, 2009. Both facing seeded players, Jesse and Melanie will need to continue their streak of big upsets to keep US hopes alive.
After making his way through qualifying, Jesse Levine has had his most rewarding tournament to date, reaching the 3rd round of a Grand Slam for the first time in his career. The 21 year old lefty Jesse used his [K]Six-One 95 racket to dismantle the always dangerous 14th seed Safin in four sets. On Thursday, after being up two sets to love, Levine defeated Cuevas in a thrilling five set match. Jesse will now take now on 19th seed Wawrinka.
Using her [K]Blade Tour, Melanie Oudin has reached the 3rd round of a Grand Slam for the first time in her career. Melanie has already spent quite a bit of time on court, winning three rounds in qualifying and grinding out a total of 13 sets to date. Coming back from behind, Oudin defeated 29th seed Bammer 64 46 62 and then overcame Shvedova 36 62 64. Melanie now faces Jankovic.
“Jesse and Melanie have already had some success at the tour level, but we are excited about them reaching this Grand Slam career milestone,” said Adam Schaechterle, Wilson Tour Manager Americas. “We look forward to supporting them as they contend for titles in the years to come.”

Renaud and I were on the search to find the next great big talent. Sometime about 12 years ago there were racket companies, clothing companies and agents that thought Roger Federer was the next “Roger Federer”.
Renaud and Adam spend countless hours at junior tournaments, following junior results, speaking to parents and coaches, trying to find out who has the potential to reach the Top 10. It is not an easy task.
So Renaud and I were at Roehampton, which is about 15 minutes away from the All England Club and we saw two events at the same time, the semifinals round of the warm up event and Wimby qualifying for juniors.
You would be surprised how many agents and companies are at these events. I like to compare it to a bar atmostphere….everyone is checking out the talent, everyone does a lap to make sure they are not missing anything, and then you go into speak to the one you find the most attractive.
So what did we find? Well, let me say that Renaud definitely is the king of scouting!! Sorry Adam!!
There were some good prospects that we will keep our eye on.
Also, we were able to catch up with some of our players like Evan King, Kristina Mladenovic, Yannick Reuter, Eugenie Bouchard and Augustin Velotti.

Yesterday was extremely busy for the tour team. We started the day off speaking about the 2010 apparel strategy with Claire, Wilson’s Global Apparel Director. It was great to see what we have lined up for 2010 and to have an open discussion of the team’s goal.
After we went to watch a lot of matches and it was great to see Roger Federer, Mardy Fish, Serena Williams, Sorana Cirstea and Philip Kohlschreiber make it through to the next round.
Then it was back to the house to distribute some player product and do some short interviews.
Jesse Levine (check out the interview below with his coach), Monica Niculescu, Andrei Pavel, Horia Tecau, Kristina Kucova, and a ton more people came to pick up some equipment. The line of the day: “Can I get more Pro Overgrip?” Seems like that stuff goes like candy!!!
Nathalie Dechy also came by with her husband to say hello after they were shopping in the Wimby village and while she was here we asked her to answer a few questions.
So here it is:
WilsonTT: Why do you enjoy Wimbledon?
Nathalie: Because it’s the best tournament in the world!!!
WilsonTT: What do you think of the new stadium roof?
Nathalie: This year it’s uselesss because right now it’s so hot!!!
WilsonWTT: You’ve had great success in doubles, tell us what makes a great doubles player.
Nathalie: Making sure you have a good relationship with your partner is very important
Wilson WTT: You have played Mixed Doubles with fellow Wilson team member Andy Ram this year and we want some insight to Andy….
Nathalie: What can I say? Andy is the nicest guy I’ve ever played with and he is fun to be with on the court. He always has a lot of engery and is jumping around like a cat. I just love playing with him!
Wilson TT: And what is good about being on the Wilson team?
Nathalie: Wilson has great products and they look good too!!!

On a sunny English day, Wilson Tour Team players heated it up at the All England Club.
There was no shortage of Wilson players that moved onto the second round of Wimbledon and here are some of the notable first round wins for Wilson:
After making his way through qualifying, Jesse Levine used his [K]Six-One 95 to defeat the always dangerous Safin. Jesse used his wheels to defeat the 14th seeded Russian and will take on Cuevas 2nd round.
Swinging her [K]Blade Team, Rosanna De Los Rios defeated former WTA Tour world #7 Nicole Vaidisova 64 67 64. In the 2nd round, Rosanna will play #1 seed Safina.
Using her [K[Six-One 95, Carla Suarez Navarro took out fellow Wilson player and 25th seed Kaia Kanepi in a tough fought three set match 46 63 63. Next round, Carla looks to top fellow Wilson player Ekaterina Makarova.
Continuing her good form, Wilson On the Rise player Melanie Oudin played with her [K]Blade Tour to defeat #25 seed Bammer 46 64 62. Melanie will play Shvedova 2nd round.
After getting into the draw as a lucky draw, Kristina Kucova used her [K]Tour to defeat Nakamura in three sets 26 63 63. Kristina, the 2007 US Open Junior Champion, will now take on Mauresmo.
